I have a 95 tahoe and want to put a dana 60hp up front with a 14 boltff out back. the axles are pricey by themselves, but there are some cheap trucks around my area. I am wondering what truck to look for. I read somewhere I want a 8?- 91 ford is this correct? there are 2 '89 f-250's in my area for under $1,000 each. how do I tell a dana 60 apart from a dana 44? and would it it possibly come with a 14 bolt? What year, make, model truck would be best? thanks for any help.

Most popular for wheelers is usually the '78-'79 Ford HP D60.

and the 14bolt comes in the back of Chevies. Fortunately if they are both 8 lug, they both have the same bolt pattern. But I suppose the back axle out of the donor Ford would work as well.

yeah, you should be able to source a junkyard 14 bolt FF for somewhere in the 300 dollar range. Best to pickup some new bearings and seals for it and drum/shoes. That axle will be stout under that truck and if you get to looking in a j/y for an axle be sure to measure the distance between the spring perches so that when you get it it will bolt right up! D60 front will be plenty stout for wheeling, but that's where you're going to pay 900-1200 dollars! and that's for a used and abused one.
You might be able to find a sweet deal on a 205 xfer case which would allow you to run the dodge/chevy D60 up front. I think that's more of a bolt on application to your chevy than a ford D60 if you got the 205. I could just be talking out my ass though.

if your chevy hs an IFS front end under it then its got a driver side drop T-case so you either have to get a ford axle or a newer dodge axle. a high pinion dana 44 out of a either 76 or 77-79 F-150 is probably going to be your best bet because they are cheap compared to a high pinion dana 60 and unless your planning on dong serious trails its pleny big enough for around 38/39s depending on gears, motor and stuff like that. but if you do luck up and get a high pinion dana 60 for relatively cheap (under about 700 for one that needs rebuilding) grab it. the dodge axles will work but i believe you will have to cut off the coil pads and put new ones on to match ou frame width. and you will have tofiggure out a way to run new vacume lines for the CAD. your othr option would be to get a far cheaper chevy axle and o a far more expensive t-case swap and convert it to a passenger side drop ( that means new t-case, new exhaust set up, and a bunch of other stuff.) hope this helps
