I purchased this 1986 Ranger for $600 back in September of 2004, it was rusty, but it ran good. ALthough the body was less than good,it was pretty good frame-wise, so it was a good place to start my TTB modifying. I finished building/installing the lift in Dec 2004/Jan 2005 using some skyjacker parts, and many custom fabbed parts as well. It ended up with about 6" of total suspension lift. I cut the fenders out so that I could get my $300 set of 36" TSL's to fit.... I built a winch bumper IN march of 2005, further modifying it in August of 05. I found an old 5'x8' Trailer in a junkpile at work, so I cut it down and made it into a 6' flatbed. At the same time, I shortened the whole truck by about 12 inches. The latest project took place in March of 2006, I built an exo-cage around the cab.

I used the ears from the factory arms, and then built them out 18" longer than stock, and incorporated a Heim joint into the end for free travel.

Over Spring break 2006, I built and installed an exo cage over the Ranger. Used about 100' of pipe, harbor freight bender and notcher, and it turned out really well.

Took off stock long bed, hack 12" off the frame and made a 6' flatbed from an old trailer. Works nicely, but you do have to tie everything down....

I swapped in a Dana35 and an 31 spline 8.8 from an Explorer. Both axles are much stronger for turning larger tires, and the added stress of gears and more engine behind them.

Since teh crosspin failure are higher in axles with lunchbox type lockers, and welding is free, I welded the spider gears and side gears in my 8.8 open carrier. Go locked or go home.
